What Enormous Fun!

This week's preschool was all about the letter E! We also reviewed our numerals 1-4, and learned about how our bodies need exercise and sleep to stay strong and healthy.

Ellie E. Elephant showed up today to teach about the letter E and admire the ears, eggs, envelopes, and fellow elephants the kids brought for homework.

She also taught us how to play elephant soccer! (Parents, in case you want to try this at home, we used our arms as trunks to "kick" the ball with our "noses". The goal was to kick it between each other's legs, though that was a bit over our heads.)

We headed to the writing wall to write our E's and our numbers.

Then we turned the letter E into an elephant, and the lowercase e into a chick hatching from an egg.

We went on an egg hunt to review our numbers. When the kids found the hidden eggs, they counted the poms inside and placed the dots in the "1", "2", "3", and "4" egg cartons.

For snack, we ate egg salad sandwiches and read "An Extraordinary Egg" by Leo Lionni. (And made silly faces.)

During music time, we sang "Do Your Ears Hang Low?" and got to try on ears for rabbits, dogs, cats, and, of course, elephants.

Some of the ears were a bit big, but the kids didn't let that stop them!

For a little more math time and some fine-motor skill developing, we made cereal abacuses. The temptation to eat the cereal was pretty strong, but the kids worked hard and everyone was able to finish his or her abacus!

We learned about how exercising, moving, and stretching our bodies helps us stay strong and healthy. The kids got a kick out of reading "From Head To Toe" by Eric Carle, where they got to move like giraffes, gorillas, crocodiles, and many other animals.

My low battery on our camera prevented us from making a real exercise video, but we still got to dance to music as we practiced all the ways we can move and exercise.

After that workout, we learned how our bodies need sleep to help us gather energy and become strong. We decided to help our teddy bear friends take a nap. We rocked them, sang a song, read them stories, and tucked them in with a blanket.

We let them sleep while we added eyes to our E's for our poster.

Then, our teddy bears woke up and it was time to help them exercise, too!

Thanks to Miss Tasha for helping us and taking all the pictures!
