First day of preschool!

Parents, I apologize--we all had a lot to learn on our first day, and I needed to learn how to teach and take pictures at the same time! I forgot about my camera until after preschool, but I took a few "after" shots of our activities.

Our first week of preschool focused on learning about the letter A, the number 1, and our Social Studies theme, "All About Me!" We talked about our names, our favorite things, and our families.

Preschool began with Circle Time, as we took attendance with the Welcome Song, discussed the weather, made a math graph about who had "A" or "a" in their name, and talked about our schedule and our preschool rules.

We learned about the letter A and the number 1 in lots of ways! We sang "The Ants Go Marching 1 by 1" and "Mrs. Alligator". We played "Move Like Me" for our physical activity, and practiced moving like an ambulance, an astronaut, an alligator, an airplane, and an apple falling from a tree. For snacktime, each child was a big helper in giving their classmates 1 of everything: 1 plate, 1 cup, 1 animal cracker, 1 apricot, 1 applesauce cup, and 1 apple slice. For our art activity, we made A alligators and a apples.

We also started our Letter and Number posters. Each week, we'll add a letter with objects that start with that letter, and a number that helps the kiddos count. This week we added aluminum to our "A"s.

When learning "All About Me", each child showed us a picture of his or her family, and we talked about how important our families are to teach of us. We read "Alligator Baby", a silly book about how a girl's parents go to the zoo instead of the hospital and keep bringing home the wrong kind of baby! Finally, we talked about how each child was given a very special name by their parents. The kids traced and then painted with watercolors over their name to make placemats.

Thanks, kids, for an Awesome first day!
