This week we focused on the letter C, the number 3, and taking care of our teeth (as part of our Health and Nutrition theme). At circle time, we met Connie C. Cow, who loved seeing the cars, cats, combs, and other great C objects the kiddos brought for homework.

Connie brought a homework bag of her own, and taught us how to walk like the animals in her bag. We did cows, cats, crocodiles, and crabs, the last of which were very tricky!

We practiced writing Cs and 3s at our writing wall....

and added candles to our Cs and poms to our 3s for our posters.

We got to practice driving as we danced to Elmo's "Drive My Car".

When learning about the number 3, we learned the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff...

and sang 3 Blind Mice (see how they ran!).

We read stories about chameleons (A Color of His Own by Leo Lionni) and carrots (The Carrot Seed by Ruth Krauss and The Giant Carrot by Jan Peck), and then we got to make carrots and chameleons out of the letter C.

For snacktime, we had cantaloupe, which not only start with a C but looked like a C (!), and we used peanut butter and marshmallows to make apple smiles.

Afterward, we played catch.

Then it was time to learn about caring for our teeth. We each got a toothbrush and learned about all the places on our teeth that need brushing. We sang the "Brush Your Teeth" song (click here for the lyrics). We found a girl who had not brushed her teeth very well....

and decided to help her out. We used our toothbrushes and white paint to give her a clean, white smile.

Then we learned about the kinds of things that make our teeth happy (toothbrushes and toothpaste, flossing, and foods like carrots and apples), and things that make our teeth sad (like candy, sugary snacks, and juice in a bottle at bedtime).

The kids helped me put each item in the "happy teeth" bowl or the "sad teeth" bowl by holding up their happy and sad teeth when they saw an object.

We learned how flossing helps clean all the little spaces in our teeth that toothbrushes can't reach. We practiced flossing on some egg cartons, pretending each bump was a tooth.

After all that hard work, it was time to shake out our sillies and do some hokey pokey!

We finished the day by decorating carrot cupcakes (click here for the recipe) and reading more books about brushing our teeth and going to the dentist.

See you next week! Thanks to Miss Jazmin for all the great pictures!
You do such a great job teaching! Did I really take all those pictures? they don't look like the ones I took!
