Our Day at Preschool

We had a great day in preschool! We reviewed our letters A-E, worked on the number 5, and learned about how eating lots of fruits and vegetables helps keep our growing bodies strong. We were happy to have Katie's big sister Melody join our group today!

In Circle Time, we graphed our favorite fruits.

Then, we were joined by all our old puppet friends! They helped us remember the letters A through E and the sounds they make. We sorted out lots of different toys and household objects by letter.

Then, we practiced writing the number 5 and A, B, C, D, and E.

We played "letter corners", where we hopped, ran, and crawled to all the letters of the alphabet as they were called out.

For math, we worked on our number 5s for our counting posters.

We sang and danced to "Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed".

Finally, we talked about how important it is to eat at least 5 helpings of fruit and vegetables each day--which led us to snack time!

We played with some puzzles as snack was being prepared.

Then, we sorted out carrots, blueberries, endive, apples, and other fruits and vegetables based on their starting letter. We piled our plates with fruits and vegetables, and the kids were brave in trying new things like eggplant and avocados!

We also learned how eating a variety of colors means that the food we're eating is good for us. We painted with food to create a rainbow:

Apples for red...

cantaloupe for orange...

corn on the cob for yellow...

broccoli for green...

blueberries for blue...

and cabbage for purple. Ta-da!

We talked about how we can find all of these healthy foods at the grocery store, and went "shopping" for fruits and vegetables.

Finally, we read The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle (clearly not the first time most of the kids have read that book!). We talked about the good things and the not-so-good things the caterpillar ate, and we discussed how our bodies feel better when we eat good things. To finish our day, we made our own caterpillars!

Thanks a million to Miss Tasha for assisting again, and for all the pictures! Next week, preschool will be at Miss Tasha's house!
